SERVICE ART

The Service Art series was a three-year participatory public art project between 2012 and 2014 during which “service artists,” equipped with assistive contraptions, would offer anti-climatic services to pedestrians. These encounters were framed in a contemporary art context through conversation, with the service artists encouraging aesthetic readings of the situation and participation. The series aimed to critically examine of the politics of public space, art accessibility, participation as a mechanism for exchange, and the consequences of the growing global service economy. Every project in this series was conceived and organized, and every contraption fabricated, by myself. Friends and actors were recruited to perform the role of the service artist.
