SCROLL DOWN

The Moon Will Glow Another 50 Years

The Moon Will Glow Another 50 Years

The Moon Will Glow Another 50 Years is a collection of sculptures and videos. It began as an attempt to give form to obfuscated lesbian and gay histories, specifically regarding moments of collective visibility and political activism of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Despite their impact on contemporary discourse, groups of lesbians and gays, their establishing of coherent forms of communities, and their movement's relationships with concurrent socio-political movements including Black Liberation, Palestinian Liberation, and the anti-war struggle, have largely been omitted from our collective memory.

Pulling visual forms from the limited existing archives, traces of spaces where lesbians and gays would meet are dimensionalized.  What began as an attempt to give form to the deterioration of lesbian and gay histories transformed into a less disciplined project, one in which moments of relating to the past became tangible.

Sculptures are made of steel, glass, silk, velvet, foil, motor oil, and fluorescent lights, were formed in an effort to relate to a specific history before my birth, a time period roughly from the 1950s to the 1980s. I was interested in the cracks in history, cracks as chance, in their fractures, and as records of an impact located in the past. The literal cracks of both glass pieces are identical cracks. The shimmering tinsel piece slowly rotates and viewers are invited to step inside.
